  Vaccination schedule before departure

june 8, 2009 : we are updating our current vaccinations before entammer vaccinations required or recommended according to our destination. Today an REPEVAX injection. This vaccine is indicated as a booster, in the prevention of diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis and polio. Vaccines reimbursed by the National Health Service

november 3, 2009 : we are vaccinated against Hepatitis A: Havrix. The usual vaccination schedule consists of 1 dose followed by a booster (one dose) to be administered preferably from 6 to 12 months after the first injection. We have the booster in November 3, 2010. This vaccine is not reimbursed by the National Health Service: 42 euros per person

September 2010 : we have a "travel medicine consultation" at the Institut Pasteur (Paris). We were pleasantly surprised by the organization, we quickly supported by the medical board. We will expose our trip: South America, Australia and North ... He make an assessment of vaccinations to practice, a procedure of malaria prevention and advice sheets on treatments for malaria, traveler's diarrhea ...

We leave with our cards and an injection of Stamaril: live attenuated vaccine for yellow fever. We will be immunized within 10 days and normally for 10 years. This vaccine can only be done at an approved center. Cost of consultation: 25 euros and the vaccine: 36 euros , and all outstanding

february 18, 2011 : So there, we are vaccinated against Typhoid. both vaccines Typhim Vi * cost 51.80 euros

By changing the first destination (Central Asia instead of the Americas) we change our "preventive health" to. Patrick returns for a consultation "Medicine Travel" at the Institut Pasteur. Good news: no malaria problem ... Bad news: due to contamination risks of rabies and because of the remoteness of vaccination center to get the serum, it is best to leave vaccinated. This vaccination should be considered carefully because there are 3 doses: D0 - D +7 and D +21.

Friday, March 18, it's a big first for our doctor, he never made a rabies vaccination and discovers the "rabies vaccine Pasteur strain Vero" recommended by the Institute Pasteur. I reassure our doctor is also a first for us!

This vaccine hurts ... the wallet: Patrick bought our first 4 vaccines (J0 and J +7): 159.60 euros. In three weeks it will take 2 more (for the third injection on day +21)
We was reassured of this important investissment watching Wikipedia: Rabies is transmitted most often by biting but can also be transmitted by simply licking. After human infection, the virus enters (directly or indirectly) the peripheral nervous system. It then travels along nerves to the central nervous system. During this phase can not be easily detected by the immune system of the host, and vaccination may still confer immunity.

In our case (with vaccination), if we just had to be contaminated, we will have several days (or even 2 weeks) to connect a medical center and get a new vaccination. It's better than a few hours to get a vaccination injection of saline +! 1.
