Computer Hardware Navigation

The Touractech company, Niedereschach (Germany), is the realm of motorcycle equipment. We spent a few hours (in English) with Ralph Bögel (product manager technik navigation / GPS) which gave us a demonstration on the operation of their software TTQV. Touractech navigation software is compatible with most GPS. 

There are 4 versions and it is the Power User of interest. We buy the Power User, a real browser with a global database. It can read numbers of card formats such as maps and features a Russian editor roadbook. It can import formats Garmin Map Source and Fugawi.

To work with the software Power User TTQV we bought a Toughbook CF-19 MK4 (pictured above), laptop hard convertible Tablet PC.

This convertible tablet PC CF-19 is reliable, durable and lightweight at just 2.3kg. The optimised display technology with low reflection allows for perfect visibility even in direct sunlight environments (up to 1000cd/m2). The LCD itself is protected by a durable scratch-resistant magnesium alloy case, mounted to the base cabinet with a reinforced 180 degree rotatable hinge.

Data is secured on the hard disk drive – enclosed in a shock-absorbing damper that sits inside an aluminium case. A double waterproof structure ensures a tight, durable seal that complies with IP65 water and dust-proofing standards and a special HDD-heater counters any adverse temperatures. These striking features ensure that you can rely on the CF-19, even in extreme conditions. We'll install it on the dashboard, passenger side.

The Garmin GPS 18 (pictured above right) is the successor to the GPS 35. It is rounded. Two versions of the GPS 18 are available: a model with USB port and a serial port model. We chose the model serial port. This GPS 18 is connected by a double cable, one for power on 12Volt cigarette lighter socket and one for the serial connection.However, it is not possible to record in the GPS points or road: it is a simple receiver that just sends information to the NMEA standard.

GPSmap 62s complements our navigation system. It is a portable Garmin GPS with a reflective color screen of 2.6 inches. Rugged and waterproof, it also incorporates a magnetic compass, barometric altimeter, a 1.7 GB internal memory and a card reader micro SD.
It has a capacity of satellite antenna via its "external" Sirf 3 Quad Helix type that provides satellite GPS in all circumstances.

All these mapping Garmin GPS can be integrated into the internal memory mapping as a micro-SD Garmin Gpsmap 62s.

Compunter

For storing pictures, the consultation of our emails and updating the website Wokipi (connections at Wi-Fi or Internet café) we wanted a lightweight and slim laptop but sturdy, with long battery life. Our choice fell on a Sony VAIO series VPCZ1 that an SSD of 125 GB and an integrated digital camera (useful for connections Skype).

We will purchase before leaving, but we chose the Inmasart model with IsatPhone Pro.

GSM phones

A ruged waterproof GSM phone Samsung Solid B2100 (already in our possession) with a download card on a local network with no obligation. (as a prepaid phone card in France)

Walkie-Talkies

We use our two Motorola Walkie Talkies.
